ENG 301 Acting Lab

English 301 Acting Lab combines discussion and hands-on collaborative learning to explore specific skills and topics in acting that are also relevant and adaptable across professional fields. No prior experience in theater or acting is required. Course topic may change each semester. Fulfills requirement: Immersive Experience. May be repeated for credit. 1 credit.

MSC 205 Song Interpretation: Analyzing Dramatic Context

This is a performance class where singers are taught various methods and techniques used for connecting to an interpreting dramatic context within a song. A piano accompanist is provided. A certain amount of singing and musical skills are expected as these will be secondary focuses within the class structure. This course may be repeated for credit as topic changes. 2 credits.

MSC 243 Musical Theater History

A survey course of musical theater history from the late 18th century through the present. The course addresses innovations, trends, styles, famous composers and writers along with foundational political, social and cultural influences. 2 credits.

MUE 240 Musical Theater Repertoire

Open to all students by audition, Musical Theater Repertoire is a performance-based course that focuses on the production of musical theater repertoire spanning the Golden Age to Present Day. This course may be repeated for credit as topic changes. Prerequisite: audition required prior to taking the course; contact the instructor for more information. Note: students whose primary instrument is voice still must be in College or Concert Choir as their major ensemble. 1/2 credit.

ENG 341 Reading and Performing Between the Lines

ENG 341 Reading + Performing Between the Lines equips "performers" (actors, clinicians, salespersons . anyone attempting to inhabit roles to achieve communicative goals for a given "audience") with the skills necessary to turn scripts into performances. Through a combination of acting exercises and script analysis, students will learn to read scripts and connect them with the performer's task of giving life to characters. By learning to recognize and use "actor-friendly" elements of scripts-which can allow performers to unlock the energies of body and mind for the purpose of creating fully realized characters-students will exploit their imaginations and senses in a discovery process that can be applied to contexts (across professional fields and beyond) that involve performance. Fulfills requirement: Humanistic Perspectives,Oral Communication. 3 credits.

IME 107 Acting Ensemble Practicum

An immersive experience aimed at students cast in major, supporting, minor, and chorus roles in production for the Wig & Buckle Theater Company, LVC's student-run resident theater company since 1934. Fulfills requirement: Immersive Experience. This course may be repeated for credit as topic changes. Prerequisite: participants must audition for the specific show and be cast by the show's director and casting committee. IME 307 Directing/Stage Management Practicum

An immersive experience aimed at students holding directing and stage manager positions for the Wig & Buckle Theater Company, LVC's student-run resident theater company since 1934. Fulfills requirement: Immersive Experience. This course may be repeated for credit as topic changes. Prerequisite: directors are elected by the Theater Company in the spring before the season in which the work will take place; stage managers submit resumes to the director and the faculty advisor. MSC 101 Fundamentals of Music

An introduction to the rudiments of music: notation, key signatures, theory, aural theory and so forth. 3 credits.

MSC 115 Music Theory I

A study of the rudiments of music and their notation. Harmonization of melodies and basses with fundamental triads. Aspects of form and analysis. Music core course. Prerequisite: MSC 101 and MSC 121 with a C- or better, or permission of the instructor. 2 credits.

MSC 117 Aural Skills I

The singing and aural recognition of music fundamentals, with emphasis on tonal pitch patterns and rhythmic patterns, and including intervals, scales, and triads. Music core course. Prerequisite: MSC 101 and MSC 121 with a C- or better, or permission of the instructor. 2 credits.

Two semesters of:
MSC 099 Recital Attendance

Designed for music majors and minors and graded on a satisfactory/unsatisfactory basis. Music core course. Graded pass/fail. May be repeated. 0 credits.
